Winter Golf Fitness Program
With the winter months rapidly approaching, it’s time to start thinking about your winter golf fitness program. As I’ve mentioned before, the key components to building a good off-season program are Mobility, Flexibility, Stability, Balance, and Strength. Already knowing this, you should also look at another important aspect: Rehabilitation. Many of us suffer from nagging injuries that have plagued us for a while. Some painful areas that I most commonly see are low back, rotator cuff, and knees. And as you know, these problematic areas not only get worse as the season goes on but year after year they get more debilitating! With this being said, the off-season is the perfect time to start rehabbing these areas so they aren’t a problem next season too!
The best way to address these issues is to start with a TPI screening. The screening will be helpful in determining if there are any limitations in the body that are causing the pain. Once complete we can take that information and build a rehab program based on the findings or refer you to the proper medical professional for further evaluation.
Once the rehab part is complete, your focus should then be on building a program that includes the key components we previously spoke of. Just remember, as the great Tom House said at the TPI Level Two certification, “Stability without mobility you have Inefficiency / Mobility without stability you have Vulnerability!” Do Not sacrifice stability for mobility! Focus on stability as it has been shown to be one of the most crucial aspects to protect the body from injury!
